Average last day of 90°F
It is the last day of September and some areas in the state are likely not done with temperatures that are flirting with or even exceeding 90°F. Table 1 shows that this would be later than average everywhere in the state, though temperatures in the lower 90's are more common in the southwest corner of the state. Temperatures over 90°F in October are not common in the higher elevations of western Nebraska and across most of the eastern sections. However, temperatures over 90°F have occurred in the first 10 days of October in recent years. Temperatures over 80°F are sometimes through by late September but usually occur until mid-October at most sites and a few days over 70°F are common in early November for all but the far northeast corner.

Average dates of sub-freezing temperature thresholds
We are almost to October and that means temperatures below freezing will likely occur everywhere in the state before Halloween, with most of the state generally experiencing killing freezes in the 20's by the last week of the month. Hard freezes tend to occur earlier the further north and west you go in the state. It is not that uncommon to have snow in October in the western part of the state and maximum temperatures below freezing do occur occasionally in eastern and central Nebraska and with some regularity historically in western Nebraska.
