Moisture for some
This weekend brought much cooler temperatures to all and decent moisture for some. Thunderstorms developed on Friday evening across northeast Nebraska and delivered beneficial moisture to much of the northeast corner of the state. Areas around Norfolk were the big winner picking up over an inch of rain. Thunderstorms also delivered between 0.50-1.00" in Howard, Boone, and Nance counties. Other areas in central and eastern Nebraska received some precipitation over the weekend but generally only around a tenth of an inch.

During the day on Saturday, the Panhandle and the western half of the Sand Hills received beneficial moisture. Precipitation amounts over a quarter inch were common and parts of Cherry County may have picked up around 2 inches of moisture, though I haven't seen any data from this area yet to verify this. Regardless, this was great news for an area mired in severe to extreme drought. Much of this precipitation in the Sand Hills and northern Panhandle fell as snow, with a broad area of 6 inches from west of Valentine down through Whitman. Up to a foot or more may have fallen in western Cherry County.

Areas that received the most snow also generally held below freezing during the day yesterday with several sites having sub-freezing high temperatures. Eastern Nebraska also had a gloomy, raw day with a couple of light showers that amounted to nothing more than a trace or 0.01". The sun did come out in the western part of the state later in the day and was out most of the day in the southwest, hence the 51°F maximum temperature in McCook.
